Fighting game music always pumps me up, especially during workouts. Spin Master Mugen sent me this rework of the Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Character Select theme, and it took me awhile to come up with ideas for a song.
I wanted to create something that would pump me up as well as pay homage to 3rd Strike. I wasn't aiming to outdo the original song (let's face it, no one can outdo it unless it's Infinite himself) but wanted to echo it's message. Lastly, I wanted to incorporate the Idaho FGC into the song somehow.
With all these concepts, you'd think I had a song, but I still didn't. It was my good friend Cody Carlman's passing (aka Cee Minus aka a bunch of other aliases) that brought it all together. His untimely passing in the summer of 2021 made me want to write a song that would keep me focused on growth as we move into the new year. There are so many things that happen in a year - personal changes, growth, friends/family moving on. It's easy to lose track, but you have to keep your eyes on the prize and keep working.
And so, we arrive at "Are You Ready?" It's a song I wanted to drop in January of the new year, as a song that would motivate others to keep going, as well a reminder for myself to keep working hard and not to give up.
